I’m Here to Motivate!

Back In 2009

This is me when I was early in my career as a chemist, 2009 I believe. I had been a chemist for about 3 years because I started in 2006 after waiting 6 months to find a job when I finished college. Let me tell you my early years of my career were tough. I had a hard time adjusting to the work environment and people. I really needed a mentor!!!

Anyways, I remember times when I went to the bathroom crying and just wanted to quit. I would call my mom everyday on break when I wasn’t reading my Bible. I just had a hard time y’all. It’s hard to do something that no one in your family has done. You’ve got to be the first. Anyways, I grew in resilience and learned how to treat people the way I wanted to be treated in spite of how they treated me. I learned about different types of people and how to be firm but caring.

As I progressed in my responsibility as a chemist, I had the opportunity to train/mentor/ new chemists just coming into the industry and some who have had experience. I vowed to myself that if I ever I got to train someone I would train them how I wished to be trained. That involves being patient and understanding. I enjoyed teaching all of them and offer myself to help them even though I don’t work where they are anymore or even if they have moved on. It brings joy to see how all of them progress in their careers.

I bet y’all didn’t know I wanted to be a teacher when I was growing up did you?

I loved school and learning. When I learned what doctors did I wanted to be a doctor and teacher but one day a teacher told me I had to chose. So I chose doctor.

Anyway, your gift makes room for you and you will do it eventually.

Over my 14 years as a chemist, I became more comfortable and confident in myself. I’m thankful for those that believe in me back then (they know who they are ?). Thanks to the ones who didn’t. It took me a long time to get there but I got there.

I said this all to say that you may feel that your change is coming slow or why I do I have to go through this. It’s because something beautiful is on the horizon. You have to trust the process. It’s going to make you better but most importantly it’s going to help you make someone’s life easier. Thank you all for reading. If you would like more motivating or inspiring stories from me.
