Something New

I’ve been going to the gym consistently over the last two years. When I began initially I used the BodySpace app to give me workout plans. I like that app because it helped me with learning how to do exercises. I’ll be honest when I started doing new exercises I was not confident in how I was doing them but I studied the video so that I could perform them correctly. Let’s fast forward to April, I was talking with my cousin about fitness as we always do and asked had she tried cycling. She did and encouraged me to try.

There are only two morning classes that I can make at my gym. One being cycling and the other being boot camp on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. I decided to give cycling and boot camp a try. The cycling class is on Tuesday mornings at 5:30. I come in the class find an empty bike and start to setup. The instructor helps me figure out the height and the distance between the bars and seat. She told me that since this was my first time that I could sit on the saddle to do most of the work out because I would still get a good workout. I said okay and started peddling to warm up before class started. The class began and we were peddling and peddling, increasing and decreasing resistance. Let me tell you one thing my butt was sore. That seat was the most uncomfortable seat I have ever sat on…..EVER! My butt hurt for the next two days. I read up on it and that is normal until you get use to it. Tomorrow will make my fourth class.

Boot camp is held on Thursdays at 5:30. I go to the class and the instructor name asked me if I’ve ever done this class before and I said no. She basically told me to do my best with the workouts and to listen to my body. That was a tough class. We did a lot of exercises that I have not done in a while. We did box jumps, mountain climbers, Burpee’s and we use the TRX bands. After the class I felt totally out of shape. It was not bad but I know that I can improve. This Thursday makes my third class.

I was very proud of myself for doing something new. It was definitely out of my comfort zone. Sometimes we need to step out of our comfort zone to see how we can do in another area. I am happy that I did and I will be continuing with these classes while I can.

What will you try new next? Let me know in the comments.
